Woa! 20 BIG ONE’s passed on! No, not twenty dollars, try $20 million dollars. That’s how much money Katy Perry walked away from to be a judge on this season’s American Idol. That’s $2 million more than Mariah Carey will be receiving! More than Mariah! No way.

Apparently though, Perry felt it was a wrong move for her career at the moment. Too bad, Perry would have definitely been a nice fit on this show considering the number of wann-a-be female pop stars. It would have been an interesting mix to say the least to see two different generations and genre of singers on one panel. Carey brings that strong vocal side and Perry brings good vocals, but more importantly your image and “sell-a-bility”. Would have been good mentors for the young-lings.

However, recent reports are saying Nicki Minaj is now the front-runner for the position for a cool $8 million. A deal that Carey is reportedly not too fond of. No official reports…just some ramblings online. Don’t know if there is any “beef” in any of that.

But I do have to ask, other than being a standout star for really just only over a year and a half, what qualifies Minaj to judge a person’s singing voice? I mean J. Lo was no Whitney Houston, but she did at least sing for the most part and had years of “star” experience. The only thing Minaj sings is either enhanced in the studio or later lyp-synced on stage. She definitely knows how to sell herself and will bring in a huge, young teenage audience, but, that whole singing part still erks me. It’s like American Idol is saying, in order to be a star, you don’t need to actually sing, just have good presentability and sponsors. Worked for Milli Vanilli…for a little.

Rick Ross is awesome. I don’t really care about his past. He’s just a funny, cool ass dude. This past weekend Rick Ross took a trip to Las Vegas in order to promote his new Reebok line. Watch as he takes us through the famous Palms Penthouse suite which comes with a basketball court,. Yea, that’ll set you back a couple stacks for the night. You can also check him out at the Reebok convention with fellow Reeboker’s Swizz Beatz, Tyga, Allen Iverson and the legend himself Dominique Wilkins.

After that Rick Ross meets up with his one of his idol’s and inspirations, David Copeprfield. Apparently Rozay had to get clearance to use Copperfield’s name from Copperfield himself, so they previously had spoke on the phone. Now they get to meet and Rick Ross brings out Copperfield while performing, of course, “Black Magic” (which uses the Copperfield inuendo). Funny stuff. Video after the jump.

If you haven’t heard of Torion, he is Lil Wayne + Young Money’s prodigy. We already got Drake, Nicki, Tyga and more to come, but this one…this one is different. If you haven’t seen him in Lil Wayne’s PSA he put out about Torion, you can see that here. As Wayne dubbed him, “The Future”, he is showing why and is getting better at an exponential rate. His flow, lyrics and musical abilities keep improving on every mixtape. He already has released three mixtapes- “The Initiation”, “The Dream Sequence” + “Reality Is…”, but “Scream Tour” is something else.

It has 5 brand new tracks and you can really hear how he keeps diversifying by taking on R n’ B, hip-hop, soul and just flat out singing. Oh yea, forgot to mention, he’s 14. At the rate he is going, who knows when he’ll hit the mainstream and a city near you. With Young Money and Wayne behind this artist and project, the sky is really the limit.

Hip Hop Updates 8/23/12 – Week of the Collaboration – Eminem Slaughterhouse, Busta Rhymes Rick Ross, Frank Ocean Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Tyga The Game More!

The first song up on today’s hip-hop update is Busta Rhymes feat. Rick Ross and Trey Songz. Busta goes off on “Til We Die” as he lays out two crazy verses. Rick Ross does his thing as usual in the middle and Trey Songz ties the song together with some attitude on the chorus. This song is off Busta’s “Year of the Dreagon”, which is a free release and the first off YMCMB.

The next up is a release from Frank Ocean featuring the steady rising Kendrick Lamar. Great collaboration and Ocean really steals the show on this one although Kendrick holds it down as well. After that is probably the dopest collab out of these. Slaughterhouse ft Eminem + Skylar Grey in “Our House”. If this isn’t the most lyrical group and song out, I don’t know what is. Oh yea, did you see the Eminem feature? After hearing this verse, I can only imagine what is going to be on his next album. It’s gonna be some “ridiculous shit” as that Russian or fake Russian dude says on those Youtube videos with the guns…? Anyone?

Coming up to bat next is The RZA ft Boy Jones (ODB’s son). Slight resemblance to his father, but definitely different. Always nice to hear RZA breathe somethin on a track.

Anyway, to round it out, we lastly have the biggest (as in numbers) collab of the day in “Celebration” by The Game feat. Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa, Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa & Tyga. You already know with that song. Doesn’t dissapoint. Listen to everything after the jump.

“American Idol” has contacted Kanye West, and they are in early talks to have the rapper join the show as a judge.

The leader of G.O.O.D. Music, Kanye West is in preliminary negotiations with television powerhouse “American Idol” about joining the cast and becoming a judge. (HNHH)

According to TMZ, executives of the reality talent show, have contacted Kanye about filling a vacant judge role on the series. It’s also been reported that YMCMB’s Nicki Minaj is close to signing a deal, and there are talks that the show’s honchos will include a fourth judge if a big enough name is attached, and West is certainly a big name.

The trio actually works extremely well together as they battle their demons in the metaphor of a boxing match. The 18 year-old was involved in a scuffle at the weekend during a trip to the cinema with girlfriend Selena Gomez, which resulted in the photographer ending up going to hospital and the ‘Boyfriend’ star wanted for questioning by the police. He left the scene before the authorities arrived and spoke to the photographer.

According to TMZ police have decided to refer the case to prosecutors and the star could face up to six months in jail. (Yahoo)

I had the love for music as a child. I remember my auntie trotting through the house rapping Salt-N-Pepa. My uncle on the other hand was a big time N.W.A. fan so I got a dose of the fun, and the gangsta which in the end trickled down to me and influenced what I do today.

Besides N.W.A. growing up, my biggest influences were Tupac, Jay-Z, Nas, and E-40. Those are the artists that I feel had the largest push on the style and quality of
music I make.

What are some projects you have worked on thus far? How have you progress? What’s your musical style?

I recently released an album on Feb. 26th entitled “Chapter 1: The Battlefield”. I helped launch a fellow artist’s (DopeAzzMuzik) mixtape and is working on my next album entitled “Chapter 2: Betrayal”. I’m often told I have a gangsta style that I often try to disguise…lol, but I have…Keak Da Sneak’s vibe, with Tupac’s messages, with a Nas state of mind. Sort of like a Gangsta Lyricist.

I’ve teamed up with DopeAzzMuzik to form a small independent label, but we have a lot of work up ahead. I also started a mastering and production company called Oakland Ape Bass. I have a lot of music videos to shoot for my newly released album as well as my new album set to drop in Feb.of 2013. I have a mixtape set to drop on Datpiff, and I’ve been collaborating with multiple artists. I’m working on some radio interviews as well as radio promotion. So look out, Bugz Bizarre’s coming to a media network near you!
